Your 2024 ASCAP Tony Award Nominees

Make some noise (or some Illinoise, if you prefer) for your 2024 Tony Award nominees! Tony nominations were announced Tuesday, April 30, and the ASCAP musical theatre family was bountifully represented: ASCAP writers penned every single Best Musical nominee and earned nods in all musical creator categories, including Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Revival.

Put your lighters in the air for Alicia Keys – her triumphant musical Hell’s Kitchen leads the pack with 13 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Orchestrations (courtesy of ASCAP’s Adam Blackstone), and Best Book of a Musical.

Tony voters felt the democratic spirit of Suffs, electing to bestow six nominations on Shaina Taub’s critically acclaimed musical journey through history. Nominations include Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a Musical.

Hats off to Zach Chance of Jamestown Revival – The Outsiders is also nominated for 13 Tony Awards. Nominations include Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations, and Best Book.

Team Water for Elephants dazzled Tony voters to the tune of seven total nominations, including Best Musical and Best Book. Congratulations to composers and lyricists Pigpen Theater Co., book writer Rick Elice, and the creative forces behind the adaptation of the beloved novel.

Sufjan Stevens also has reason to celebrate, with Illinoise (a musical adaptation of his beloved 2005 concept album) receiving four nominations, including Best Musical and Best Orchestrations for the excellent work from composer and pianist Timo Andres.

Doors also flew open for the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, with the buzzy production earning nominations for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Orchestrations courtesy of Jonathan Tunick.

In the Best Original Score category, pop a congratulatory bottle for Adam Guettel, nominated for Days of Wine and Roses, and Fatboy Slim, nominated for his contributions to Here Lies Love. And in Best Orchestrations, Justin Craig earns his first Tony nomination for his sensational work on the creative juggernaut of Stereophonic.

Congratulations to our menagerie of musical superstars nominated for Tony Awards. The 77th Tony Awards will be hosted by Ariana DeBose at Lincoln Center in New York City on June 16. Watch it on CBS or Paramount+.
