RONAOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Two of the music industry’s most well-known artists are coming to the Star City.
Ja Rule and Ashanti are set hit the stage at Elmwood Park in Roanoke on September 24. Gates open at 5 p.m. and children 12 and under are free.
Queens, NY, native, Ja Rule first debuted in 1999 and took the 2000s by storm with multiple hits. Several made the top 20 of the U.S. BillboardHot 100 including “Between Me and You” (featuring Christina Milian), “I’m Real (Murder Remix)” and “Ain’t It Funny” (both with Jennifer Lopez)—which both topped the Hot 100.
One of his most popular songs “Always on Time” topped No. 1 which featured Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, Ashanti. Throughout Rule’s career, two of his albums hit the U. S. Billboard 200 album chart and sold over a combined 15 million units.
But Rule is not coming alone. Ashanti will take the mic on the Elmwood Park stage!
She burst into the music scene with her debut album, “Ashanti,” which landed the No. 1 spot on both the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album charts. In the first week, her album sold 504,593 units.
During her career, she earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records and has six studio albums. Ashanti has eight Billboard Awards, a Grammy, two American Music Awards, two Soul Train Awards, and six ASCAP Awards.
From 2000 to 2010, she reigned at the top as one of Billboard’s “Top Females of the Decade from 2000-2010.” But her reign hasn’t stopped there, Ashanti continues to break Billboard records having a Hot 100 entry every decade in the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.
Now the pair will be bringing their talents to the Star City.
